Adolescent Sexuality Trends
On my review towards adolescents and their sexuality behavior and trends, I was able to find quite a large range of information towards the reasons adolescents would develop these behaviors and the explanation for these acts.
I will start by talking about the adolescent psychology stage; I will be comparing views from three noted theories regarding adolescent psychology- of Coleman, Freud and Blos. Secondly, the influence towards adolescents; as in peer pressure, the media, and teenage trends. The risk adolescents are taking and ways to prevent adolescents from those risks.
Adolescent psychology Stage
As young people approach the adolescent stage, they begin to develop a type of risk taking attitude. Although we all know How adolescent’s is one of the most difficult stages of our psychological growth, being prone to sudden and unpredictable changes; physically and emotionally, sometimes putting in question for psychological researchers to define and structure the essential qualities of this stage .
Nevertheless, I have found three theories to be compared with each other;
Coleman’s theory of adolescence is known as the Focal Theory. It focuses on the transitions that an adolescent faces. Coleman suggested that “the number of transitions a young person experiences during early adolescence is negatively related to well- being and positively related to difficulties” (Schulenberg p.15). Therefore, for Coleman, transition can be both positive and negative influences on the adolescent. Coleman also suggested that transitions in adolescence creates a kind of psychological or emotional bank for the person to help him or her get through the transition from adolescence to adulthood (Schulenberg p.15).
