Nowadays, in many developed and emerging countries, there are more and more old people. Since this makes the population aging, much research, development and policies have been undertaken to solve the problem. Scientist and technologists and are researching and inventing modern equipment to help the elderly cope with daily living; facilities and infrastructures are improved to help the elderly move with greater ease; policies are being promulgated by encouraging more births to make the overall population younger. This will enable the nation to support the elderly in their communities.   All these efforts are continually pursued to ease the problem of aging.
Firstly, scientists and technologists are working to prevent aging and diseases and to make life more pleasant for the elderly. According to Mount Sinai School of Medicine (2009), a new research has proved that a restricted diet, consisting of about 30% reduction of calories, will help decelerate both the aging process and some diseases of old people such as Alzheimer. This discovery leads to the expectation that people might get older in their ages but their bodies are still young and energetic enough to work. As for technology, a group of researchers in the United Kingdom, has developed a new generation of wheelchairs. They are able to plan paths and avoid collisions and also include a mobile phone, a camera and a laptop on their handles (University of Essex, 2007). These wheelchairs will help...
