First I want say that the alcohol is the most consumed drug in the world. It is use by man, in the form of beverage, presumably dating from the dawn of humanity. The initial intake linked to religious activities gave way to public consumption.
Since then distinguished in two broad categories of consumers, those who drink within the social norms of responsibility and, unfortunately lose control and become irresponsible drinkers. Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive disease that results from the excessive and uncontrolled intake of alcohol, which is found in all alcoholic beverages to a greater or lesser degree. This disease is characterized by a dependence on alcohol, which is in two symptoms: inability to stop the ingestion of alcohol and failure to abstain from alcohol.
It has many physical and psychological effects that make the person change their behavior. Alcoholism is a complex and develops over time. Gradually, the alcohol becomes a drug for the drinker, used to change the mood, more than a drink taken as part of a social custom, as they usually begin eating with others. Alcohol consumption has been recognized as a factor of social integration and conducive to coexistence. Alcohol is a drug, which by its accessibility and its powerful commercial that receives, it has become a real social problem in almost all countries and all ages from adolescence. Alcohol is the drug most widely used by adolescents I think right now.
Alcoholism is defined by the term "alcohol dependence syndrome (ADS)" described as a chronic behavioral disorder manifested by mental and physical state, which leads to overeating binge alcohol with respect to social and dietary rules the community, repeatedly, continuously or periodically in order to experience psychological effects and end up interfering with the health and economic functions and social drinker.
