Animal Testing: Tax Money Kills Animals
It wasn’t until 1966 that the United States Department of Agriculture enacted the Animal Welfare Act.     This act was intended to regulate the care and treatment of animals in research laboratories and is still the only Federal law in the United States that protect the treatment of animals.   While there have been many amended acts since the enactment of the Animal Welfare Act, many of our government agencies are the primary institutions requiring the use of animal testing.   From the use of vertebrates and invertebrates these agencies require certain testing on animals before certain permits are allowed.   This brings cruelty and mistreatment of animals, from the capturing to the euthanizing due to the attempts to research a new chemical, drug, or cosmetic.  
Administrator, Lisa Jackson of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) appears to have three fundamental values in which guide the agency to strive for efficiency to the “people”; science-based policies and programs, adherence to the rule of law, and overwhelming transparency.   Jackson states that “by keeping faith with these values and unleashing innovative, forward-thinking approaches- we can further protect neighborhoods and communities throughout the country.”   (http://www.epa.gov/epahome/aboutepa.htm)   Perhaps this is why the EPA does not uphold to higher standards when it mandates regulations that require animal testing.   It seems as if their main concern is to have the best “innovative” “science-based policies” regardless of the cruelty and mistreatment the animals go through.   According to   government agencies such as the EPA, pay for countless animals experiments.   The EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) regulates all products designed to destroy, attract, or repel “pests” that are sold or imported into the United States.   Accordingly, for every pesticide used or sold in the United States the OPP requires that a lot of animals be used for the...
