      A belief system is an established, orderly way that groups or individuals look at religious faith or philosophical properties. Throughout the world there are many different systems of belief. Some are confined to one region while others are more national and wide spread. Often times these systems have affected the politics, society, and the economy of the region or country in which they’re practiced.
      One belief system that’s greatly effected its region is Buddhism. Buddhism was mainly practiced in Nepal and its surrounding land and it has one major idea, nirvana, or spiritual enlightenment. Nirvana is a Buddhist’s ultimate goal. In order to reach nirvana you must follow three main concepts, the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, and the Five Precepts in that order. The Five Precepts say not to harm living things, do not steal, avoid over stimulation, do not say unkind things, and do not take alcohol or drugs. Buddhist’s believe that by living by these guidelines you will have followed both the Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths and therefore reached nirvana. The idea of Five Precepts had a huge impact on society in this region. By not stealing everyone was honest and could be trusted more. Instead of having to worry about locking up your house or hiding your valuables you could leave them out and not give it a second thought. If people refrained from saying unkind things then you have less hatred and fights breaking out. By not having fights break out you’re also avoiding over stimulation which is another one of the precepts. Also by avoiding over stimulation you’re getting rid of your desires which is one the essential things in reaching nirvana. Overall by following the Five Precepts people forced society to be much more kind and laidback than today’s society.
