When thinking about being touched or touching someone does it come across as a fear to you? Do you encounter breathlessness, dizziness, excessive sweating, dry mouth, feeling sick, heart problems, inability to speak or think clearly, becoming mad or losing control, or a feeling detachment from the world around you when being touched? If you do you might be suffering from a phobia called Chiraptophobia. Fear of being touched is a phobia that affects over 250,000 people in America alone. Chiraptophobia results with difficulties showing affection, interacting with people, and doing normal everyday tasks. While most people with Chiraptophobia understand that these fears are unreasonable, they often find that facing, or even thinking about facing, the feared condition brings on a panic attack.
People suffering from Chiraptophobia are unable to show the normal signs of affection for their significant other. Kissing, hugging, holding hands, and sexual intercourse are some of the common examples of affection that deals with touching. The significant other of the person suffering Chiraptophobia could have a feeling of being unwanted, with out the normal touching. Most of the time when you love someone, you want to start a family of your own with them. In order to make a baby there is lots of affectionate touching involved. People with Chiraptophobia are repulsed at even the slightest mention of sex.
