Classical Civilizations
If the four classical civilizations we have discussed, India, China, Greece and Africa, would have ever directly encountered each other they would most likely “get along” due to their basic similarities, and perhaps try to impose some ideas on each other over minor detail differences. All of the four civilizations are used to multiple views/ perspectives within their own society so they should be more than able to accept or ponder ideas/views from foreign soils. Also most of the society had a clear social hierarchy, with major differences between elites and the majority of people who did the manual work and each generated ideologies to explain and justify this, so they may just of to inspire from each other. Finally, all these civilizations had an agricultural economy and aagricultural societies were usually patriarchal so they have similar views on the gender roles and would most likely be able to handle socializing and doing business among other men.
If the classic cultures met they would understand and tolerate the differences in each other’s beliefs because of the many different views in their own society. India, Africa, Greece and China would “get along” quite well and accept each other’s differences in religion/ways of life. In India there are three main religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. They all believe in reincarnation and enlightenment, but that’s about where the similarities end. Hinduism has a caste system while Buddhism and Jainism have no caste and believe in the respect for humans and nature over respect of social position. In China there are three diverse ways of life Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism. Legalism states that all humans are born evil, while Confucianism states that they are all born good, thus having conflicting ideas in society. Daoism says to live in harmony with one another, which may be what prevents the other two sides from showing aggression towards each other.   Since Africa is a large land...
