For year's people have enjoyed watching horror films such as Saw, The Ring, Strangers, 1408 and others. Poeple have enjoyed seeing these movies for the thrill, suspense and those parts that make you jump. A horror movie makes you feel a intense feeling of shock, fear, or disgust. A part of us likes to get scared with the fact knowing that we are really safe. Today, hunreds of horror films have been made. Two great explames of horror films are pyscho and the strangers. Although made in different centirutes their share some of the same style that make people scared today.
1st off, a little history. Horror stories have been around for a long time, but the 1st story to be called horror was a book by Horace Walpole in 1794 called The Castle Of Otranto. Although not scary compare to today's standers but back then its supernatural feel, mysterious story melodrama started a craze of stories with supsense and thrills. These stories began to pick up populatery. For the next couple of years these type of stories were one of most popluar genres. But as the early 19th century came, the age of enlightenment gave way to a new way of thinking. People began to relize that fear and awe aren't so very different sensations. One of the first great horror stories was Frankstin in 1818 wirrten by Mary Shelley. As the years passed on, more horror classics came like the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Dracula.
When movies made their debute, it was only a matter of time before horror stories were filmed. But since it was the slient era, these movies had to rely on visual appearance, such as shawdows and light. It requrie people to bring these monsters into pysiche form. Some of this was hard to do since the film was black and white. One popular movie was Nosferatu, a film about a vampire. This film established many of the rules and basics for horror films today. Although many of the 1st apptems at horror genre have been lost today.
