Each year, underage consumption of alcohol, causes approximately 5,000 children to die. Even though it may look cool, it still damages your body. Why would you even think of doing something that is so harmful to you? Not only can you kill yourself, you can kill others by drinking and driving. I am against underage drinking.
Studies conducted by National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) states that underage drinking has many negative consequences. Drinking causes brain troubles, such as affecting academic and occupational achievements. Adolescents start drinking during their time of puberty, which may upset the critical hormonal balance necessary for normal development of organs, muscles, and bones. In one study by the NIAAA, doctors evaluated short-term memory skills in alcohol dependent and nondependent adolescents ages fifteen to sixteen. The alcohol dependent youth had greater difficulty remembering words and simple geometric designs after a ten minute period interval.
Teens that drink and have a license are most likely to get into a car after they drink. In another study by the American Medical Association (AMA) showed that adolescents already are at an increased risk through their relative lack of driving experience, and drivers younger than twenty-one are more susceptible than older drivers to the alcohol induced impairment of driving skills. The rate of fatal crashes among alcohol influenced drivers between sixteen and twenty years old, is more than twice the rate of alcohol influenced drivers twenty-one years old and older. Why would you want to put innocent drivers at risk? Underage alcohol use is more likely to kill young people than all illegal drugs combined.
To stop underage children from drinking, the society has to do something about it. According to the NIAAA raising the price of alcohol may stop adolescents from wasting their money on something that could kill them. The country should definitely enact zero-tolerance laws that...
