There are many problems and situations to take into account when deciphering the causes of WWII. During the 1920’s all of Europe was in an economic maelstrom. By directly linking the falling economy to WWI you can pinpoint the key stressors in the situation.   Germany and the reparations instilled of the loss of WWI can be viewed as key components along with the Treaty of Versailles, Bismarck’s secret alliance system and policies that failed to take affect (balance of power). By allowing these factors to occur and precipitate all of the Great Powers in Europe during the 1920’s are at fault for the failing economy.
As WWI came to a close the Triple Entente drew up a severe armistice for Germany to uphold. They made it so strict as to cripple Germanys economy making sure that it would be a long time before the Germans could make themselves such a huge threat. By imposing such harsh reparations Germany was not able to pay back its war debt to France, who in turn was unable to pay her war debt back to Britain who was unable to pay her debt back to the United States. The reparation started a domino effect that eventually led to the downfall of European economy as a whole.   Once the Germans signed the treaty November 1918, the chain began. Adding insult to injury around the time the 200 million dollar reparations were made, Germany was hit with an economic fiasco.   Inflations increased and this just added to the more money owed.   Once seeing how hard Germany struggled they were issued a temporary moratorium.   Still with deflation and just recovering from a war that destroyed much of their territory, Germany was in no condition to pay anyone back.
The Treaty of Versailles was a peace settlement signed after the close of WWI on June 2, 1919. Lloyd George, Wilson and Clemenceau were all present during the drawing up and signing of the treaty.
