ABSTRACT
The term paper presented attempts to look into the business environment of India and China   with respect to setting up a Gem Processing unit. The unit so established will import rough Gem stones from countries like   Brazil, Africa and Tanzania to be processed in established unit(location: China or India) and exported to countries like USA, Thailand, Hongkong etc. The proposed organisational structure for India is a partnership firm while that for China is Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise. The feasibility of the two locations has been studied with respect to various   parameters. In parameters like ease of employing labour, starting business, getting credit, import –export regulations etc   India scores better than China while on parameters such as ease   of enforcing contracts, paying taxes, infrastructure, trading across border and closing business China has an upper hand .But when we look at various other qualitative aspects feasibility of the unit functioning in India is greater when compared to China. In India Jaipur will be the place of functioning.
