The classification of “Big Cat” is meant to distinguish a much larger version of a cat. These majestic beasts are known for their size, speed, and beauty. There are many types of Big Cats that experience an abundance of genetic traits that are variants from most species. These differences make them unique from other types of Big Cats. However, their uniqueness may be a detriment?

Big Cats are one of the most celebrated creatures in the world. The Cheetah is a type of Big Cat. Cheetah’s live in sub-Saharan countries in Africa as well as in Iran. They stand about four feet tall and weigh seventy five to one hundred and forty pounds. The reason the Cheetah is so beloved, is its speed. Cheetah’s are the world’s fastest land animal and have the ability to go form zero to sixty miles an hour in three seconds. The also have the ability to change direction very quickly. They use both of these skills when it comes to catching their prey. These types of animals has the ability and popularity that should make it easy to thrive, but their are only around twelve thousand cheetah’s left in the world today.

Cheetah’s are on the endangered species list. Conservationists believe that there are multiple reasons for this. One reason could be that the cheetah’s natural habitat is being destroyed. The grassy plain where the cheetah’s live is becoming popular with human settlers. These settlers’s are setting up homes and farms in land that was once held by the cheetahs. One example of this can be found in a country that once had an abundance of cheetahs, Namibia. In the last twenty years Namibia has undergone democratic expansion. With this expansion there was a drastic decline in its cheetah population. In ten years (1180-1190) the population of cheetahs was cut in half. After this there were only a quarter of a million cheetahs left. During this time farmers in Namibia had a low tolerance for cheetahs. The cats would be found feeding on livestock as well as destroying crops....
