The world has heard its fair share of rumors. Scientists dedicate their lives to researching when the world will end and the existence of UFO’s in outer space. They try to explain ghosts and other paranoia through science. We hear about miraculous creams, lotions, pills, and shots that will help us to lose weight or decrease wrinkles. We have created our own ways to scientifically change our bodies. There is no proven evidence of UFO’s, ghosts, or a pill that will truly make you lose weight. These are all rumors and misconceptions that have tricked many people. Our outlook on science is construed when we base false information on scientific claims. How do we know when science is real? The answer to this question is when you can see it, experience it, and feel it. Global warming has been occurring for over a hundred years. At this very moment you are experiencing the effects of global warming. In a recent speech Barack Obama (2008) said, “All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it's here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster.” Global warming is causing a destructive change in the earth’s weather patterns that will affect our temperatures, precipitation, and storms.
Global warming is caused by layers or carbon dioxide pollution and other greenhouse gasses. According to the NRDC, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the use of automobiles and power plants for many years traps heat in the atmosphere and the heat is unable to be released. Coal burning power plants are the largest U.S. source of carbon dioxide pollution; they produce 2.5 billion tons every year.
