Global warming – the increase in the average temperature of the Earth, is a big problem that the world is facing. Shifts in temperature bring about a lot of changes in climate and the increased risks of diseases and natural disasters. If global warming is still not controlled, the Earth may come to extinction someday. Thus, we – the citizens of the Earth, should immediately find solutions to this huge problem.
One possible solution to restrain global warming is preventing deforestation. When forests are burned, cleared or degraded, their stored carbon is released into the atmosphere. Therefore, slowing tropical deforestation, which currently accounts for 20 percent of heat-trapping gas emissions worldwide according to the statistic on the Internet article “Common Sense on Climate Change Solution #4 : Protect Threatened Forests”, can make an important contribution to avoid the Earth’s temperature continue increasing. To do so, the government should enact laws that prevent people from deforesting disorderly and put restrictions on timber industry. In addition, each individual is also responsible for conserving forests and trees by small things such as not cutting trees, planting trees and building gardens at homes. Controlling deforestation helps us not only prevent global warming but also decrease air pollution and reserve our “green” Earth.
However, we will face a lot of obstacles because protecting forests damages the benefits of many people including timber industry, lumber smugglers, farmers … and it requires high sense of self – consciousness of every person. Propaganda and education about the bad consequences of deforestation are good ways to appeal the willingness of the people to protect forests.
Second, by investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency and increasing the efficiency of the cars and other appliances at homes and offices, we can reduce our dependence on oil and other fossil fuels that cause global warming. Using energy...
