Gypsies in France
Romani people or gypsies as they are more popular, are large minority group living mostly within Europe. They mainly inhabit Central and Eastern Europe. The entire gypsy population is believed to be around 5 million people around the world. Where they come from?
Some believe that they have Indian ancestors others believe that they are old Romanian tribe.( Fraser, Angus The Gypsies : Blackwell Publishers, Oxford UK). They began migrating to Europe and North Africa via the Iranian plateau about 1,000 years ago. The reason for their Diaspora remains unknown to the world.
People today do not seem to care much about gypsies as a minority group. They do not know anything about their language or culture. The truth is that they are a group difficult to compare to any other existing one. Their language is very different from any ancient language when you compare it.
Their physical appearance on the other hand, is very similar to people of the Indian subcontinent.
