It is very difficult to define sexual orientation precisely. In general, however, sexual orientation refers to a person’s erotic and romantic attraction to one or both sexes. Western culture recognizes three types of sexual orientation: homosexuality, bisexuality and heterosexuality. A person with no erotic or romantic inclinations is said to be asexual. Little is known about asexual individuals. Homosexual means having erotic and romantic feelings for someone of the same sex. Men who are attracted to men are called gay men, and women who are attracted to women are called lesbians. However gay is also used generally to refer to homosexual men and women. Most gay men and lesbians hate the word homosexual because of its clinical and negative social connotations.

Homosexuality is a subject that was discussed for a very long time and still is at this moment everywhere in the world. In the old days, people wouldn’t accept homosexuality and they would go to extremes, like killing them, if caught. Also, nowadays in some regions it is still that way but in Canada we tend to accept them more, probably because we understand it better than some other civilizations. There are a lot of issues across the world concerning the attraction of two people with the same sex orientation, meaning homosexuality. Practices in homosexuality occur between men-men relationships and women-women relationships. It has not been that long ago that the medical field found out about all the many diseases and illnesses caused by non-protected intercourses with an infected partner. A lot of murders occur because of hatred towards homosexuality and discrimination of the person. ‘’In the United States, the FBI reported that 15.6% of hate crimes reported to police in 2004 were based on perceived sexual orientation.’’ There are a lot of aspects on homosexuality such as myths, historical, gender/ethnic differences and philosophical perceptions that we should do more research on and I...
