To welcome employees recently transferred to my department for our Hong Kong branch can be done effectively and efficiently. As they all speak English, I would suggest to my manager that he not use slang in his email (Bovee & Thill, 2002). The slang phrases that he used are mostly American used and may not be understand by all those that speak English. Our Hong Kong colleagues may speak English but may not understand American slang. An audience centered approach means focusing on and caring about your audience, making every effort to get your message across in a way that is meaningful to them (Bovee & Thill, 2002). This email seems not to be centered due to the use of slang phrases that may not be understood by foreign members of the company (Bovee & Thill, 2002). If the email were taken word for word, without understanding the slang, anyone who read the email would not understand what my manager is talking about. Below is the revised email.
We would like to take this time to welcome you all to our office here in the United States. Although we have exchanged emails and telephone calls, we are excited to meet you all in person. We are very excited to get to know each and every one of you. I am sure you all we like America, but I know moving from a foreign land might be difficult. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything here in America, to make your transition as comfortable for you as possible.
Countries that have the same language have many cultural differences. So if one could imagine the cultural differences between countries speaking different languages would be most difficult. The Peoples Republic of China has many different cultural differences that would affect business as a whole (InTechTra Inc, 2005). I would advise my manager to use correct English when speaking to our Chinese counterparts. Additionally, I would advise him to do some research on Chinese culture so he has a better understanding of American and Chinese culture differences...
