The chief advantage of hydro systems is it costs a lot less than other sources of energy. Hydroelectric plants are immune to price increases for fossil fuels and do not require imported fuel. On the other hand as hydroelectricity is increased petroleum/oil should be decreased.
Hydroelectric plants generally have small to none emissions of carbon dioxide and methane due to reservoir emissions, and emit other pollutants associated with combustion. Hydroelectric plants may be able to reshape water flows to more closely match daily and seasonal system energy demands.
Hydroelectric plants have many advantages but even though they do sound perfect they still have some disadvantages. One of the main advantages of hydroelectric plants is since no fuel is burned there is minimal pollution. Today pollution is a main argument that is harming our environment. Pollution is causing the atmosphere to decay and is helping generate global warming. Since there is not much pollution by hydroelectric plants then the earth should be able to last longer. Another main advantage is that water is provided free by nature there is minimum cost to convert it into energy. The earth is made up of 72% of water then there is a main advantage since we have enough water to last a long time. Hydropower plays a major role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions which could also help with less pollution released into the environment. Hydroelectricity requires relatively low operations and maintenance costs. This is very beneficial today since the economy is bad and that we have had a bad president for the past eight years. Lastly, it's renewable - rainfall renews the water in the reservoir, so the fuel is almost always there. The disadvantages of hydroelectric power are high investment costs, hydrology dependent (precipitation), and fish entrainment or passage restriction.
There are many more disadvantages of petroleum such as oil is a carbon based fuel and the primary way it is used is to burn it,...
