According to Genesis 1:27 “God created human beings in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them”, and as Christians, we strongly believe that God made human with just two genders, male and female. And in each gender, there are respective responsibilities and obligations that they have to attend to. If God made you female, or male, there are reasons behind it and it’s the will of God. And if there are people who choose to change their gender and whole personality and self, others think that it’s unethical and they are not willing to accept what God has given them. This is the reason why most of Christians oppose the idea of Sexual Reassignment Surgery.
Based from what I’ve understood from the movie, Transsexuals are the people who strongly identify themselves with the opposite sex and they seek to live as a member of this sex especially by undergoing surgery and hormone therapy to obtain the necessary physical appearance, as by changing their external sex organs, just like the case of Richard, a pastor, who identify himself with the opposite sex. He believes that he is really a woman stuck in a man’s body. He acts and feels things as a woman. After the surgery, Richard became Rebecca. She was treated by her daughter as a complete woman. It wasn’t a big deal at all for her daughter because she is able to provide all the needs of her family and at the same time she does the responsibilities of a mother effectively. But other people who don’t understand her situation continue to criticize her. And it becomes more crucial because she was a pastor. Endless criticisms are the main effect and disadvantage of doing a sex reassignment surgery. Another case is Jennifer’s. She was a respected and good professor in a university. Like Richard, she had a sex reassignment surgery. During her teenage years, like any other girls, she wears dress and acts as a girl, but as time passed by, she starts to realize that she wasn’t happy. She...
