The definition of intelligence is a social construct, invented to describe individual differences in cognitive ability. There is actually no world known definition for intelligence because many different cultures define intelligence in many different ways, in which describe characteristics that help people function effectively in certain environments. British psychologist Charles Spearman developed a procedure called factor analysis which was the strongest case for viewing intelligence as a single ability. His tests showed that everyone has their own special abilities because of tests he did over their mental ability, and then used factor analysis to identify clusters of similar results. Each cluster defined a certain factor such as mathematical reasoning, spatial abilities, or verbal fluency.
The set “Get Smart” provided a series of questions, like spearman did, to help test our intelligence. The first set was a verbal subtest, which had an assortment of questions related to all of the multiple intelligences. An information subtest was the first test, which just tested our general knowledge, also called our stored information. Next was a similarity subtest which measures your abstract or conceptual thinking through the use of analogies. Then came an arithmetic subtest which contained verbal math problems. Next was a vocabulary subtest which tested us on our understanding on words meanings. Our fifth subtest for the set of verbal subtests was a comprehension test that contains verbal reasoning problems measuring our understanding of appropriate social behaviors. After the verbal subtests came a series of performance subtests such as picture completion tests which measure our visual alertness and visual memory; a picture arrangement test which measured your knowledge of social situations; a block design test that measured our ability to perceive and analyze visual patterns; an object assembly test that measures our ability to deal with part/whole relationships;...
