The words inequality and oppression just to name a few are the phrases in which surround Muslim women living in a contemporary society. Women’s rights organisations such as The United Women’s Association located in the heart of Lakemba New South Wales (NSW) have been established in order to educate both Muslim and non-Muslim women about the changing times and their statuses in contemporary society. My previous opinion was that Australia is a multicultural society, and I believe that there is a large group of people who are Atheists. I believe that these Atheists are so close-minded that they are easily influenced by media propaganda in which portrays only one side of a group (usually the negative side). I was born and raised in Australia and have not ever travelled outside the borders of NSW. I don’t know if it is because I have not experienced life to its fullest as yet, but what can I say, I am still only 20 years of age. From my observations I have the view that in relation to Muslim’s people in general, the media have such narrow minded and reluctant to show the positive sides of the Muslim community and adhesively use propaganda as a smart tool to view the Muslim minority, especially the women, look and sound arrogant and dangerous all due to the few people within the Muslim community in which do the wrong thing by others.
The general Rule of Law within the Australian constitution states that, “no one is above or below the law and that men and women are all equal in the eyes of the law and that no one is above or below the law”. Lakemba is known for its strong Muslim community presence. Growing up in this community my outlook on life was that, as soon as I would hit puberty and being the eldest child in my family I would have to marry and begin a family just like my mum did at my age. Education was on the agenda but was not a on my priority list on things to accomplish in life. I always had the mind frame that women were only there to marry, have children...
