Informative Speech Outline
General Purpose: To persuade.
Specific Purpose: To persuade an audience to follow me in my belief that High School players should be able to jump directly from the high school to the pros.
Central Idea: There are certain circumstances in which going right to the pros is the best step.

ii. Plenty of confusion through the 1920s
iii. The League was in disarray.
(Begin with the Early Years of what has become the NFL. At this time professional football was in a state of confusion.)
II. The Early Years (1920- 1940)
a. Professional football begins
i. American Professional Football Association renamed NFL in 1922
b. The teams’ struggle
i. 1st dozen years over 40 teams joined and were dropped
c. First game
i. Dayton Flyers defeat the Columbus Panhandles by the score of 14-0
d. Green Bay Packers
i. Oldest surviving franchise
ii. Since 1921
i. No more African Americans in the League until after World War II
f. First college draft
g. 1st televised game
i. Held on NBC station
ii. Fewer than 1000 TV sets existed so its unclear how many actually watched game.
h. War takes players
i. Draft takes many players to War causing some teams to not have enough players to compete.
j. 1st West coast team
i. Los Angeles Rams

III. The Middle Years (1940-1970)
a. First Black Quarterback

i. Legendary coach is hired by the Green Bay Packers.
ii. The trophy that is awarded to the Champions of the season is named after him.
i. New football league to rival the NFL.
ii. The new league, called the American Football League (AFL) began play in 1960 with only 8 teams.

i. Receiver Bobby Mitchell signs with the Washington Redskins
ii. First black player on the last all-white team in the NFL....
