This song is written by James Hetfield, the singer in the band Metallica.
The lyrics in this song speak metaphorically of believing that you have almost reached your goal only to be confronted with another problem.

“And it feels right this time
On this crash course we're in big time
Pay no mind to the distant thunder
Beauty fills his head with wonder, boy”

In the first verse, he says that something feels right, is thinks he has found the solution to a problem, almost reached his gaol
“ And i feels right this time”
Hetfield continues with saying that we should not care about the problems that might come as a result of the solution you make.
“ Pay no mind to the distant thunder”
The first verse is over when he says beauty fills his head with wonder”, meaning that when you think you see the solution, you ignore consequences.  

The next verse goes like this

Says it feels right this time
Turned around and found new high lights
Good day to be alive, Sir
Good day to be alive he says.

Again he says it feels right, underlining his certainty.
The he says “ Turned around and found the new high lights”, meaning that that he found something new to focus on, to be happy about.
“Good day to be alive, Sir, good day to be alive boy.” He feels good. He likes whats going on.

Then comes the chorus
“Then it comes to be
That the soothing light at the end of your tunnel

And here is the whole point of this song. When you think that you see the light at the end of your tunnel, when you think you have reached your goal, then you just get confronted with another problem
