Obesity in Children
It is very scary to think that as time goes by more and more children are becoming obese. Obesity causes many health problems, therefore parents need to carefully look at the causes of obesity and implement a solution to the problem. The major causes of obesity in children are too much television, unhealthy eating habits, and lack of exercise.
As a result of watching too much TV many children are obese. With all the children programing we have 24 hours a day, it is very hard for children to keep their eyes away from the television. In addition there are lots of video games that take a child's attention completely away form being physical active. Instead of watching too much TV or playing video games for long hours, parents need to restrict the time for these type of activities.
Because parents are working most of the day and tired they pay less attention at what their children are eating, they turn to frozen food or fast food restaurants to do the job for them. Parents are creating unhealthy eating habits for their children that are going to bring negative consequences. One solution to obesity is eating healthier meals everyday. Healthy eating habits start at home and children learn by example, therefore parents need to start eating healthy too. By taking away the sugar drinks, greasy food, and unhealthy snacks there could be a major reduction on the calories children consume.
We have heard it from pediatricians, nutritionist, and television that children need to go out and play at least two hours a day. If they are saying this is because children are not exercising enough. If parents want their kids to do more exercise as a solution to obesity, they must engage their children in sports such as swimming or tennis or even taking a daily walk. In addition parents need to talk to their children about the benefits of exercising.
