Pregnancy: My Experiences and Expectations

I don’t know about my own experiences for child birth but I do have experience with it, I was born wasn’t I? Also I worked at Fresno Community Hospital for a brief period of time doing a vast array of duties; changing sheets, monitoring heart rates of patients in ICU, taking dead patients to the morgue after I put them in body bags, helping with open heart surgery and I even helped with the delivery of three babies. Two of the deliveries were the old fashioned and very disgusting way. I have never seen something so alarming, at least five gallons of amniotic fluid gushed out onto the floor of the room as well as the mother to be screaming “ Get this thing out of me! “, but then there it was, a baby. I do not remember if it was a boy or a girl but it was alive and until I suctioned its throat with a little blue apparatus much like the one we use to baste turkeys with. It was covered in a thin layer of white film which I helped rub off gently with my fingers. Then I grabbed it’s little foot and hands and presses them against an ink pad, then pressed them onto a placard like card for its first hand and foot print. Next I wrapped the little baby up in a blanket, put some booties, gloves and a beanie on and then to mommy. I understand that child birth is a miracle and a memory that parents and family would want to cherish forever, but why video tape it? Would you really want to watch that in hi-definition? Some things I guess I and other people will never understand. Then there was the one c-section delivery I experienced, and let me tell you, it was even more alarming. A mile of intestines sitting on the mother’s stomach as the doctor digs around for a baby lurking somewhere inside. The whole time this was happening she was conscious which I had no idea of.
