I have decided to pursue a career as a network and computer systems manager because the field fascinates me. This will be a secure field to enter as computers are added to the ranks everyday and more specialists will be needed to solve problems for computer operators. There are several types of employment in this profession. The standard employees in a corporation usually work 40 hours a week; consultants have work hours that are unpredictable and extensive travel is sometimes necessary. I believe anyone who wants a secure occupation and enjoys working with computers and solving problems should consider this occupation for a career choice that will be interesting and rewarding. The career will require dedication and willingness to be a lifelong learner in order to stay updated on new technologies to better serve clients. A network and computer systems administrator will be expected to update systems, keep them secure, install hardware, analyze problems, maintain, debug, and instruct computer operators on procedures. Earnings, for this career choice, in 2005 were reported to be from $47,250 - $70,500 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2007).
