Racism has been going on since the early eighteenth century. The definition of racism is simply the act of prejudice or animosity against people who belong to other races. Anthropologists believe that race does not exist. So, should that mean that racism does not exist? Race as a term was used for identification purposes, to identify a group of people within the same ethnic background. It also gives social identity a way for one to perceive oneself and how one is perceived and treated by others. This term was introduced by early Europeans, which then spread to Africa and then the new world, the western cultures. When America was first being settled there were different classes of people for the tasks at hand in building a new country. These different classes consisted of settlers, merchants, farmers, and conquered people, also known as slaves which were the manual labor. The settlers, farmers, and merchants mainly consisted of Europeans, where as the slaves mainly came from an African descent. This is just a simple example for how races were controlled and misconstrued into dividing the people into a more controlled manor. During this time the common religious belief coming to the new world was Christianity with a protestant perception. So, the Bible states that we are all created equal in Gods own image, however this has not been the case these past years in the founding of our country. Giving people a race was also a way to control them. Race was manipulated effectively into a strategy for separating, ranking, and controlling people. The more the people valued this term the more it was being used, which means the more it was becoming apart of the culture. In modern day society people are still divided into different groups based on their race or ethnic background. When you go to apply for a job, a school, or a loan you have to state your race which is taken into consideration for your eligibility to acquire your request.   This is one example of how people are...
