Sat Essay 1.
Humans have always and will always value only what they struggle for. If something is too easily gotten it is not appreciated or valued. “That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly. It is dearness only which gives everything its value.” A gift you receive would be less appreciated than, something you work very hard to obtain.
Human nature tells people that if you work hard, and earn what you get, you will value it much more. If you fight for your rights, you will appreciate them much more than if you were just given rights. I am sure the soldiers value freedom much more than the average American citizen. Sometimes you need to you underappreciate what you have until it’s gone.
If I receive a gift for Christmas I value and enjoy it very much. When I work really hard to get what I want it is the best feeling ever and it makes me feel accomplished. It’s like you earn what you have rather than just being given to you. I do believe that which is obtained too easily we esteem too lightly. It is not appreciated.
We do only value what is struggled for. I personally worked very hard and earned money to buy a car. The car means so much to me because I know what I had to do to get it. My mom wanted to give me her car but I appreciate so much more earning my own. And even though my car is not the nicest or most expensive it is very dear to me. Dearness is what gives it its value.
In conclusion, that which is gotten too easily is not appreciated or valued. That which you work hard for is greatly appreciated and never taken for granted. “That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly. It is dearness only which gives everything its value.”
