Shattuck St. Mary’s is one of the best choices that I have made for my future. Back home in Virginia, I was losing interest in soccer and in school, I was getting the worst grades and getting into some trouble. My parents didn’t know what to do with me; they were losing control and their heads. One night, my dad received a call that would change my life in many ways. Coach Linenberger, one of my coaches for ODP in Virginia, called my dad telling him about such a great soccer program that he and Tim Carter were running in Faribault, Minnesota.
My dad knew my passion for soccer and thought that I would be interested. I immediately said, “No!”   I told him that I was not going to the middle of nowhere just to play soccer and for school. My dad and mom sat me down and said that if I were to pass up this chance then I would end up like some of my friends dropping out of school and not caring. I knew that I did not want that for my future, I wanted to play soccer in college and get a good job after. I put a lot of thought into what my parents said and I agreed to come to Shattuck St. Mary’s.   At Shattuck, I didn’t know what to expect I visited the school once and I felt like was at Hogwarts.   All I knew was that Coach Linengerger was a coach there and that Shattuck was running a very competitive, elite soccer program with the some of best players from the Midwest.
For the first few weeks in school, I wasn’t feeling right. I felt like I didn’t belong; I felt misplaced.   A few months into the school year, I was getting bored, I was doing the same thing every day.   I was waking up, getting ready for school, and going to all my classes.   After school, there was soccer practice, dinner, study hall, and sleep for the next day of school.   I wanted to go home. I missed my friends, parents, and the delicious Spanish food my mom cooked. As time went by, I began to feel at home with the friends I was making and the more soccer I was playing.
