Solving Obesity With obesity affecting around 30% of America’s people, its citizens should be deeply concerned about their increasingly flabby future.  While some Americans do fit the healthy category, others are slotted in the underweight, overweight, and even obese categories, all of which can be unhealthy.  According to the American Medical Association, being obese means that nearly one third of your ideal body weight is constituted by fat.  As a guideline, this graph will show oneself where they sit according to their height and weight:(Health) So sure, obese ones aren’t the prettiest to look at, but is there another reason this problem should be addressed?  Absolutely.  Obesity is a major health concern, contributing to millions of deaths across the country.  Richard Carmona, the former U.S. Surgeon General, says obesity is our public’s greatest threat to health today.  Every death combined from cancers, accidents, and AIDS can’t even stack up to obesity’s death toll.  Furthermore, children are being affected by this problem like never thought possible (Public).  If that’s not bad enough, the United States is getting fatter and fatter with every year that passes.  This is caused mostly by the sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet that a good portion of our country partakes in, although poor genes can also hinder a person’s ability to keep the pounds off.  Skipping breakfast, eight hours of sitting in the office, and some fast food here and there all contribute to the extra weight the U.S. is packing on.  But there is hope.  Fat can be lost in a number of proven ways.  Some solutions affect others more, but there is no reason a person has to be stuck buying XXL clothing the rest of their lives.  With obesity being one of our nation’s biggest problems, it needs to be taken care of, and can be with the help of diet, exercise, or surgery.  Diet can be a great step towards solving obesity.  This seems to be the most common way people choose to lose weight,...
