Companies are increasingly shifting from individual mindsets to team collaborations. Gone are the days where tasks and assignments are completed individually and passed to a hierarchical management for implementation. The collaboration of each individual’s knowledge and creativity lays the ground work for a productive team, but their ability to communicate effectively is what will be the determining factor for their success. Team communication is a highly evolving creature that is continually changing in order to keep up with the current demands and technological advances of our society. Team communication occurs in many different ways. Some communication types are as simple as an informal conversation between colleges. Other forms of team communication are more in depth and formal like a departmental team meeting. Major companies are even rebuilding their structural office environment in order to promote more communication amongst team members.
Effective team meetings are an essential part of team communication whether one is dealing with a virtual team or an in-person team. Team meetings serve several purposes in a work environment. First and possibly most important teams can build relationships at meetings. Team members are also able to set goals, objectives, and learn their team’s various skills. Individuals can plan and coordinate work with other team members during meetings. As a whole, teams can discuss issues and try to find ways to solve problems together.
