I stand here now on the gallows where the life of those pure innocent souls has been put to an end. I come here to Salem to fulfil what been a beloved errand for I but now, it has been the most foolish decision and mistake I have ever made.   All the years of my life, I have pondered the invisible world and had dealt with the most perilous sorceries of all time. I had thought that people have been living in ignorance as they know nothing of the signs of the Devil but it is I that was living in such state. I was called to Salem to cease the dark spirits that is living amongst them. I had with me proudly brought my knowledge and pride. I was delighted with my success of exhorting Abigail and the young women to confess the people they know who worship diabolism.   I had believed that finally the village was being cleansed from Lucifer’s disciples. But how can I be so foolish to believe such pretence? Abigail is fraud, a wicked hypocrite. I have intervened what seemed to be a peaceful community, it was I who have ignited the conflict within the village. It was I who has kindled Abigail to tell such false accusations. John Proctor who was only a victim of vengeance had to be persecuted. I did what I should to save Mr Proctor’s life as it felt that I was responsible for his ordeal. But I am nothing but a disgrace. What kind of man is to plead someone to blemish his own name? I should be damned for persuading men to lie. And Goody Nurse, ohh bless such a good soul. I could not bear to see such a pure person be hanged. I pleaded to Hathorne that if this Rebecca Nurse is tainted, then nothing’s left to stop the whole green world from burning. But he had been deceived by such act. Lies and hypocrisy prevailed over truth. This was the outcome of my ignorance, of not seeing the underlying scheme of Abigail. Respect and power I deserve not.
