In Touch With Autism  

      Autism is a condition that affects the development of brain function. It is manifested by impaired social interaction and communication. It affects the brain by altering neurons and synopsis communication with each other. The curious incident of the dog in the night-time shows how autism disorder affects Christopher day to day life. Mark haddon shows us Christopher’s brain capability and limitation in order to interact with others and to perform daily activity.
“Siobhon understand. When she tells me not to do something she tells me exactly what it is I am not allowed to do…..she has done” (29) kids with autism need consistent instruction and description in order to complete simple task. This instruction should have every details of the task to be done and should be explained step by step. For example Christopher has to be told how long he has to be quite. “Be quite!” will bring may question to his mind like how long? He has a list of things to be done every day with the specific time. This show Christopher has limited information processing ability. Sometimes kids with autism are more benefited from sign and symbols that directly represent a concept or an idea. That is why Christopher communicates better with iconographies which depict sad face or happy face. This could be interpreted that kids with autism visual sensory is more functional than their auditory sensory.
Most of the time kids with autism do not think about the consequence of their action especially when we cross their comfort boundaries. For example Christopher does not like to be touched or grabbed. He considers outside world as a danger. Therefore he tries to control his environment by attacking other who try to grab him or by outrageous behavior towards others that seem a treat to him.
