Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that studies fundamental questions of reality. Thales is a Monist when it comes to being classified as a Metaphysician.
Metaphysics is usually divided into two major schools of thought.

THALES AND THE SHIFT TO PHILOSOPHY
In the last chapter, we discussed how Philosophy can be distinguished from Mythology. Thales „ explanations involve looking to nature from within nature to explain Reality . The Older Homeric approach proclaimed unusual natural phenomena to be the will of the Gods. These claims described a Transcendence approach . Thales‟ new approach is called an Immanence approach. Thales claimed that to understand nature we need to look “within “nature to find answers . So when Thales introduces his water thesis as the fundamental building block of Reality, he is trying to give a very different way of understanding Reality. Thales takes us in a new direction and it suggests a fundamental shift in thinking.
