When the typical sports enthusiast thinks about golf, they don’t just think about the beautiful courses located around the world. Instead, they think solely on Tiger Woods and his well-known pumped fist celebration to one of his many great shots. He did what was thought of as impossible by winning four major titles in a row at just 25 years of age. Starting golf just as he began to walk and becoming what he is today while facing racism and discrimination is the finest example of determination and perseverance in the sports world to this day.  

He was born on December 30, 1975 and started carrying his putter around with him instead of a rattle at just 18 months old. He appeared on the Mike Douglas Show at age 2 and putted with comedian Bob Hope. At age 3 Tiger didn’t exactly know what he was doing. He knew one thing though; all he had to do was hit the ball as far as he could. At this age Tiger was already excelling at the game for his age shooting a 48 over 9 holes at the Navy Golf Club in Cypress, California. When he was just 5 years old he had already featured in Gold Digest, a popular golf magazine. Tiger’s main goal as a kid was to beat the man who taught him the game and role model, his father. That day came on November 28, 1987 when Tiger was just 11 years old. He only beat his dad by a single stroke but now that he’d beaten the many who introduced him to the game, he could step out on his own. He won the Optimist International Junior tournament six times between the ages of eight and fifteen. The first professional tournament he participated in was when he was just 16 years old. Having 6 PGA TOUR appearances in his teen years, he entered Stanford University and in just 2 years, he won 10 collegiate events.

Tiger faced a lot of racism and prejudice as he made his way to the top. He was robbed at knifepoint one night when returning to his dorm room at Stanford University. The robber broke his jaw and stole his wallet but called Tiger by his name, even...
