There are many issues that going   around   in the world every single day that many of us neglect to talk about, some find it inappropriate, while other are just not comfortable hearing or speaking of such matters. Regardless of how we feel we shouldn’t turn our back to those less fortunate than us, or to those who have been through traumatic experiences. Because you never know, that person may be your neighbor, friend, or even your own family.
I remember myself as I was skipping towards that third room on the left hand side of my grandma’s house, when I paused into the second room, where my 14 year old cousin laid in bed surrounded by sisters and cousins, she laid there very still, and sobbing. Her eyes were filled with such misery I thought maybe a member of my beloved family had passed. Without thinking twice I began to weep as well. I questioned her, “Who died? Bailey, why do you cry?” She began to sob even harder and my cousins became more upset. “Nelma, you are far too young to know such things.” Amy snapped. “But why does she cry, is someone dead?” I questioned in mid tears. The answer that came to me was new and unfamiliar, “Bailey has been raped, and she was a virgin, now she has lost it.” She answered with no regards that she was speaking to an 8 year old at the moment. “Raped? What is rape? And why is her virginity lost? Why can’t she find it?” Though she felt there was no time to explain she responded in the simplest of words so that I could understand the situation around me. “Nelma, your cousin is very sad because someone has taken a gift from her that she held very dear in her heart, and soul. They say you should only give this gift to the man you love, someone who truly captures your heart and loves you for the woman that you are, but another man stole that gift from Bailey with force, anger, and a lot of hate.”
