Research Methods is an HSS course in IIIT Delhi. HSS courses are humanities based courses which are there to provide students with something dierent than all the IT-oriented courses. The objective of this course is to introduce students to various research methodologies and to provide tools that can be used to evaluate the research results. Topics that this course aims to cover include scientic research methods like observation, survey, interviews, experimentation, problem formation, hypothesis generation, hypothesis testing - data collection, and data analysis, validity of research - conclusion, internal, external, and construct validity, generalizability and reproducibility, iterative research process. At the end of the course, one can expect to get experience in writing high quality research paper. Another of the components for this course is the Advanced Research Methods course for some PGs and it involves signicantly extra work. The HSS courses in our college are optional courses i.e. it is not mandatory for everyone to take the same course, one has to choose from a number of available choices some of which are psychology, perspectives on knowledge and others. Most of these courses have their basis as humanities but RM in itself is not a humanity-based course. As quite clear from the course contents stated above and from the name itself, it is purely a research-based course but the faculty felt that it is one course that is important but it should not be made mandatory. So, this was one way by which it could be included in the curriculum.
