Seventeen million Americans have fallen victim to Type 2 Diabetes. Others are plagued with Myelodysplastic Syndrome which is a deficiency in bone marrow. A more shocking find is Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (Benzene 411 1,5). Soft Drinks are the main cause to numerous medical issues found within the digestive systems of many people who consume these toxic beverages. The effects of soft drinks can be seen within a matter of weeks as you glance at your smile in the mirror, a matter of months as your waist line continues to increase, or the consequences can be dealt with later in your life as the your bone marrow density has decreased due to the consumption of soft drinks. Are all of these gruesome side effects worth the closure from a drink? I believe that soft drinks shall be avoided at all cost. I have three valid points to prove my stand on this matter.
Colas should be excluded from daily life because it is a main contributor to the rising obesity rate. Arnold Schwarzenegger passed legislation banning soft drinks in California high schools. The rate of obesity in the California districts rose to its record high of 23% (Duran 1). Harold Goldstein, Executive Director of the Center of Public Health, states, “A 20-ounce bottle of soda is equivalent to drinking 17 teaspoons of sugar and adds 250 extra calories a day,”(Duran 2). Water is becoming an obsolete option while soda is on the rise of popularity. However, weight gain is predominant more so in women rather than men, but the risk is still present for both sexes. Soda drinks in the long run can contribute to the silent killers that strike when least expected. Refrain from drinking colas, your life depends on it.
