Some often wonder what it’s like to be married, and others wish they had never gotten themselves into a marriage. The problem with marriage is people are always skeptical with whom to spend the rest of their lives with. It is a huge commitment, in which people repeatedly find themselves asking if the person is right. Finding a wife that is capable of satisfying you in all possible aspects is very difficult.
Judy Brady discusses the qualities of the “perfect” wife, in Why I Want A Wife. Brady takes many shots at the gender role, and makes a mockery out of the standards that males tend to have. The article happened to be quite amusing, considering when making possibly one of the largest decisions in your life, males will most likely raise their standards. These standards are not be raised any higher then women raise there’s, when searching for a husband. Nowhere in the article does Brady mention the “husbandly” duties, nor does she provide a con argument. Brady refers to examples that are found frequently in everyday marriages, but exaggerates them to no end. Male or female, who wouldn’t want to be pampered, greeted with a smile, sexually pleased…?
I’ve encountered and dealt with married couples, divorced couples, and single people first hand. Every relationship is different, which makes it tough to make such large assumptions about the male expectations, like Brady did. The single people preferred to stay single, because they were unable to find that one special person, or never wanted to depend on anyone. The divorced couples were incapable of living with each other, and constantly found one another fighting. And the married couples, well as previously stated it is tough to make assumptions. What I’ve found though is each person does what he or she can to appease the other. Whether it is the male cleaning the house, or the female fixing the deck, whatever it may be you’ve made a commitment and must do anything and everything to keep to it. In other...
