In the article by Rose Solari titled “In Her Own Image”, she talks about the idea that woman should be allowed to be heads, leaders, priests, or pastors of their church (Solari 19-27) . However, the bible states in many different scriptures or verses that women should not. In the Lutheran Missouri Synod denomination of Christianity, they believe that God has many places in the bible that go against the women being religious leaders above men. These examples are more popularly found in the New Testament which is odd because that is where most people look for a more realistic way of living in this generation. However, the examples are found throughout.
An example of scripture that supports the idea that women should not be leaders of the church is 1 Timothy 2:12-14.   This verse says, “12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression” (new living translation, 1 Tim. 2:12-14). This verse is strictly speaking of how women in the church structure and their proper place and not in politics. For example, in the Old Testament, Deborah was a judge in Israel over men and that was allowed. However, in 1 Timothy 2:12-14, Paul is just speaking about the relationship between men and women in the sanctity of church society and not in social or political situations.
More specifically just looking about the Lutheran Missouri Synod belief, they also use the scriptures 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and Ephesians 5:21-32 to support the belief that women should be under man and not leaders of the church (new living translation). In 1 Corinthians, it clearly states that women should be quiet and submissive in church (new living translation, 1 Corinthians 14:34-35). In Ephesians, it states that women should be submissive and listen to their husbands but also that husbands should love their wives and loves them as they love...
